ADAPTOGENS

In the years from 1947 to 1991, during the time of the so-called “cold war”, a very hostile and competitive environment existed between the United States and the Soviet Union.

These two powerful nations of the world competed at all levels to win allies to their respective ideologies.

At that time the Russians tried to show the rest of the world that their technologies, military power, physical and sporting abilities were the best. Both nations were competing in a race for space launches and nuclear technology.

The Russian scientist Dr. Nicolai Lazarev, who invented the name «adaptogen», discovered Adaptogens in 1947.

Adaptogen according to the Systemic Theory

An adaptogen, according to the Systemic Theory, is any substance capable of increasing the triangle of health composed of Energy, Biological Intelligence and the Organization (function and structure) of any biophysical system; and in particular the human body. By definition, an adaptogen must not cause side effects, it must have a modulating effect, it cannot cause addiction, and it must transfer its survival properties to whoever ingests it.

In the field of sports and international athletics competitions, Russians and their allies stood out as athletes and sportsmen. The Russians especially showed great strength and unmatched physical endurance. In Olympic events Russian athletes always finished in the top positions.

Part of these athletic merits of the Russians was due to the use of adaptogens. The term was created to describe a group of natural substances that have very special properties.

They are substances that help the human body to adapt to conditions of internal or external stress. They are substances that enable the body to resist stressful situations that would normally affect functioning in a negative way.

Adaptogens are nothing like stimulants like caffeine, guarana, or ephedrine. Adaptogens are substances that help the body achieve an optimal balance of internal energies. For example, a natural adaptogenic substance tends to lower blood pressure if the person has high blood pressure. But, this same adaptogen also has the effect of raising blood pressure in a person with low blood pressure. In other words, adaptogens «adapt» to the body and contribute to obtaining a more balanced state of cellular functioning.

There are natural substances that lower blood pressure, such as garlic. There are also substances that increase blood pressure such as caffeine or salt. However, adaptogens tend to stabilize blood pressure and other body functions. Adaptogens are said to be «bidirectional» because they work in both directions as needed. They speed up the body’s systems that are very slow (for example the metabolism) while slowing down and calming the states of emotional stress that have been shown to produce obesity.

Adaptogens are natural substances that regulate the internal chemistry of the body in whatever direction is necessary to achieve balance. They increase the body’s resistance to any stressful situation (overweight, physical weakness, fatigue, emotional stress, etc.). They give the impression of being «smart» substances that achieve the same increase as reduce what is necessary in the body to achieve a better level of adaptation and a physical, mental and emotional balance.

For many years the Russians conducted secret scientific studies on adaptogens in order to gain an advantage for their soldiers, athletes, and cosmonauts. They did extensive studies with their populations to determine the properties and effects of adaptogens. These studies were secret of the Russian state and only their hired scientists worked on them.

Russian athletes and cosmonauts secretly used adaptogens for increased endurance, increases in physical strength, better mental focus, better coordination of reflexes, and reaction times.

On December 25, 1991, the Soviet Union was dissolved and the communist regime that had dominated Russia for so many generations fell. From that day on, scientists who had secretly worked with adaptogens were out of work. Many of them emigrated to Europe and the United States and with them we received information about the existence of these wonderful natural substances.

When 3,700 natural herbs had already been classified with their properties, only 11 of them had been considered «adaptogens». For some kind of herb or natural plant to be considered as an adaptogen it must have the special characteristic of being able to work in two opposite directions as needed by the body. In other words, it must have the characteristic of being bidirectional in its operation. Until then, only 11 of the herbs or plants on the planet meet this requirement.

Features

• They catalyze responses in the body to increase physical and mental performance. They also provide resistance to stressful situations at the cellular level.
• Its effect is to balance and normalize the body systems leading to general homeostasis and health.
• They are not toxic to the human body and do not produce harmful or negative effects.
Effect.

They have an energizing effect in the medium and long term. They would create and maintain energy stores, rather than deplete them, as a stimulant like caffeine would.
